The holidays are a special season when families can indulge in quality time and enjoy each other’s company. It’s also an opportunity to teach your child about different cultures.
Throughout December, our Character Essentials® theme is “We Are Kind”. During this time, we not only demonstrate things like generosity, helpfulness, and politeness in the classroom, but we also take time to learn more about each child’s unique culture. We invite their families to come in and share their traditions, ensuring that all children feel respected, included, and have the opportunity to learn about the various ways families celebrate.
Making sure all children feel happy, accepted, and appreciated is a focus at Kiddie Academy® throughout the holiday season and beyond. By incorporating kindness throughout the month, children are able to see how the positive impact it has on others.
Here are some things you can do with your child over the holidays:
- Simply modeling gratitude and generosity can set an example for your child to always lead with kindness
- Asking questions about other people and how they celebrate holidays or honor their culture is a great way to show your child the importance of being open to learning
- Have children create simple gifts to practice the essence of giving and express their own creativity
- Help your child write thank you cards to demonstrate the act of showing appreciation
Taking a thoughtful approach to teaching your child about other cultures ensures the holidays remain a wonderful time for everyone. By instilling kindness and openness during this joyful season, we can start the new year off on the right foot.
