Building confidence at a young age is an important part of children’s development, which is why it’s part of the Life Essentials® curriculum at Kiddie Academy®. Teaching children to be confident has a variety of benefits. It helps foster positive social and emotional skills and encourages children to recognize their own strengths.
Teaching confidence at home in addition to the classroom is a great way to ensure your child gets to practice being confident where they feel the most comfortable. Here’s an easy, fun activity you can do together:
Ordering Out
Materials:
- Take out menus from local restaurants (can also be homemade using a pen and paper)
- Cell phone (can be real or a toy)
Directions
- Lay out the takeout menus and discuss with your child what their favorite restaurants are
- Ask them questions such as “What food does the restaurant serve?” and “What do you like to get off the menu?”
- Encourage your child to pretend to be a customer and “call” the restaurant to order food
- For older children, invite them to call an actual restaurant and make a real order!
