Creative expression is a critical part of children’s growth. It contributes not only to their ability to share their feelings freely, but also to their development of imagination, self-confidence, problem solving, and even language skills.
At Kiddie Academy®, we encourage children to use music, language, movement, art, and play to express their unique thoughts. By instilling this early on, we are able to nurture their self-esteem and emotional health. This enables them to become more confident to think outside the box and practice communicating their individual ideas.
Our center-based learning approach allows for large blocks of time for children to explore creative expression in self-selected areas of the classroom, giving them the chance to try new things and uncover new solutions without fear of judgement. We focus on things like “process” art experiences where the children have free range to use a variety of art materials to create something, instead of just following directions to make a predetermined final product. We also expose children to music and movement experiences, encourage conversations in which children can discuss various topics openly, let them use their imaginations to play pretend, and more.
Giving children the autonomy to explore their individual creativity has a positive impact on many different aspects of their overall development. By cultivating an environment where children feel safe to explore, we are creating a foundation for a more successful future.
